vibedasher vs Apache Superset
Who Superset is for
Apache Superset describes itself as "an open-source modern data exploration and visualisation platform", and it names three readers explicitly: analysts and business users exploring data and building dashboards, IT teams installing and operating it, and engineers building integrations. Authoring is dual — "either our simple no-code viz builder or state-of-the-art SQL IDE" — and the architecture is deliberately lean: it "leverages the power of your existing data infrastructure without requiring yet another ingestion layer". It is licensed under the Apache License and governed by the Apache Software Foundation, which means something the other five tools here cannot offer: there is no company you are entering a relationship with. For an organisation whose requirement is literally "no vendor", Superset is the answer and nothing on this page changes that.
The comparison
Every statement about Apache Superset on this page describes what their own homepage, public documentation and licence file said as of 2026-10-06. This category moves fast — check their site for the current state.
| vibedasher | Apache Superset | |
|---|---|---|
| Who writes the dashboard | Your coding agent, as React components over SQL. We host that tree as a static, client-rendered bundle — React only, with none of your server code in the request path and no npm install at build time, because the libraries come from a pinned list. | A person, in the no-code visualisation builder or the SQL IDE, producing Superset charts and dashboards. |
| Hosting and governance | A URL behind your login, or an embed inside your product. Per-viewer row filters are the embed lane and only the embed lane — enforced server-side from a signed token. A dashboard you publish publicly is the other case: its credential-free data lane serves one Parquet extract per dataset and snapshot, so every visitor gets every row of it. | Roles, permissions and row-level security are documented features you configure and operate. Embedding exists; check their docs for the current supported shape. |
| MCP / agent control plane | An MCP server covering the whole loop: connect a source, push dashboard code, build, publish, schedule a refresh, eject. pip install vibedasher-mcp then vibedasher login. A refresh needs a dataset backed by a live connection — an uploaded file cannot be scheduled — and every cron is read in UTC. | Not part of its stated positioning. Check their documentation and releases rather than trusting an absence stated by a competitor. |
| Eject-to-code | Yes. React source in your repo, still querying our API. A real ejected dashboard runs on this site. | Not applicable — there is no component tree. Dashboards can be exported as Superset definitions. |
| Self-host | docker compose for one host, a Helm chart for Kubernetes, the same engine as the managed cloud. No production customer yet. | The default and the whole point. Mature, widely deployed, and yours to operate. |
| Managed cloud region | Data plane in the European Union, Frankfurt. Sign-in identity — email address and account membership — is held in the United States for every account; there is no region selector. The self-hosted build keeps both in your network. | No managed cloud from the project itself; third-party vendors offer one. |
| Connectors | Warehouses, databases and SaaS sources, plus CSV and Excel upload. The count is on pricing; the full list, including what is not available yet, is in the documentation. | A very wide range of SQL-speaking systems — see their documentation. |
| Licence | Proprietary, with a self-host option. | As of 2026-10-06, their licence file says: Apache License, Apache Software Foundation. |
| Pricing model | See /pricing. | No licence cost; your infrastructure and operations are the cost. Their site. |
Choose Superset if
- "No vendor" is the requirement, not a preference — a foundation-governed Apache-licensed project is a different kind of commitment from any company's open core.
- Analysts exploring a warehouse interactively is the primary job, and a mature visualisation library matters.
- You have a platform team who will own the deployment and consider that normal.
- Breadth of SQL-speaking sources is the deciding factor.
Choose vibedasher if
- The dashboards are already being written by Claude Code, Codex, Cursor or Gemini and nothing in Superset can host React.
- It is going in front of your own paying customers as an embed, where per-viewer row filters are enforced server-side from a signed token rather than chosen in the client.
- You want the agent to do the operations too — connect, publish, schedule — over MCP.
- You would rather not staff the deployment, or you must, in which case see self-hosted BI and read the paragraph about having no production customer yet.

Perguntas frequentes
- Superset is free and I can self-host it today. Why pay for anything?
- If the operations are not a cost to you, that is a legitimate answer and we are not going to argue you out of it. Superset is Apache-licensed and governed by the Apache Software Foundation, so there is no vendor relationship at all. What you take on is the upgrades, the metadata database, the workers, the caching and whoever is on call. Our managed cloud exists to not be that, and our self-host exists for when it has to be.
- Does Superset have an MCP server?
- Nothing about MCP appears in its homepage positioning, and we are not going to assert an absence in a project that moves as fast as this one — check their documentation and their releases. What we can say is that Superset's own positioning is a no-code visualisation builder and a SQL IDE for people, not an agent control plane.
- Can Superset host a React dashboard my agent wrote?
- No. Superset renders its own chart types from its own chart definitions, with a documented set of visualisation types. That is a strength for a human exploring data and a wall for an agent that has just written a component tree.
- What is each licensed under?
- Checked on 2026-10-06, from the licence file in their public repository. Superset is licensed under the Apache License and governed by the Apache Software Foundation. vibedasher is proprietary, with a self-host option. If a permissive open-source licence is a hard requirement, that row decides it and the rest of this page is academic.
- Could the two coexist?
- Easily. Superset for analysts exploring the warehouse, vibedasher for the dashboards an agent writes and a product embeds. They read the same tables and neither knows about the other.
